Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.14%

Investing.comJapan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Pharmaceutical Industry and Marine Transport sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.14%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which rose 5.06% or 276.00 points to trade at 5,742.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Concordia Financial Group Ltd (TYO:7186) added 4.82% or 37.20 points to end at 808.80 and Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) was up 3.68% or 14.00 points to 393.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Fujifilm Holdings Corp. (TYO:4901), which fell 3.13% or 108.00 points to trade at 3,347.00 at the close. Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (TYO:9007) declined 3.00% or 56.00 points to end at 1,810.00 and Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755) was down 1.91% or 15.30 points to 781.70.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2842 to 819 and 200 ended unchanged.

Shares in Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (TYO:9007) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.00% or 56.00 to 1,810.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 6.20% to 22.09 a new 3-months high.

Crude oil for May delivery was up 0.15% or 0.12 to $82.81 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.22% or 0.19 to hit $87.48 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.21% or 5.05 to trade at $2,393.45 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.14% to 154.17, while EUR/JPY rose 0.01% to 164.79.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 105.59.
